Northern Ireland's Ulster Bank unveils new 5- and 10-pound polymer notes for 2019 introduction

On 23 May 2018, Ulster Bank unveiled the designs of two new banknotes to be introduced in 2019 under the “Living in Nature” theme. Both notes have vertical designs and are printed on polymer substrate. The blue 5-pound note focuses on Northern Ireland as a place that people pass through and visit, highlighting the importance of the sea and migration. It depicts Strangford Lough in County Down and Brent Geese. The brown 10-pound note focuses on Northern Ireland as a place of growth, both in terms of agriculture and heritage. It depicts Lough Erne in County Fermanagh, the Irish hare and Guelder-rose shrubs. The notes also feature culinary delights associated with the north, namely a king scallop and an Ulster Glade potato.

Poland unveils unissued Warsaw Pact notes

zloty-650_650x400_814716332534096
According to an article in The Guardian dated 19 August 2016, in the 1970s the National Bank of Poland printed stocks of banknotes denominated from 1 to 2,000 zloty. Codenamed E-17, the notes were intended to be issued in territories captured by Warsaw Pact forces. The notes will be on public display in 2017. Given that the bank last year sold albums with all 23 notes issued from 1975 to 1993, it's possible that it will eventually sell sets of the Warsaw Pact notes, too.

Poland new numismatic product confirmed

20150414_album
On 16 April 2015, the National Bank of Poland introduced an album containing all 23 banknotes issued from 1975 to 1993 (none of the notes is legal tender nor exchangeable). 23,000 sets quickly sold out at 190 zloty each (US$53), which is not surprising because until recently these notes would have set you back US$3,000 if purchased separately on the collector market. Because the new album contains notes with prefixes intermingled with those previously confirmed as issued, it’s impossible to distinguish between pieces taken from numismatic products and issued notes.
