Sweden changes portrait for new 1,000-krona note due October 2015
25 03, 2013 14:01 Category: Europe
According to a Sveriges Riksbank press release dated 25 March 2013, "The Riksbank has reached agreement with the copyright holders for the images and symbols that will be used on the new banknotes. In connection with this, the portrait of Dag Hammarskjöld on the 1000-krona banknote has been re- placed. The issue of the new banknotes will begin in early October 2015.
"Today, the Riksbank is also publishing the texts that will form the basis for the mini- and micro-texts on the new banknotes. The mini- and micro-texts are in- terwoven with the banknotes' motifs and act as extra security features.
"The texts are linked to the individuals portrayed on the respective banknotes. The 20-krona banknote, for example, will contain a line from “Pippi Longstocking”, one of Astrid Lindgren's most famous books, while the 500-krona bank- note will have a text listing Birgit Nilsson's operatic roles. All the mini- and mi- cro-texts are available on the Riksbank's website."

In a notice dated 17 March 2010, the General Council of the Riksbank (Sweden’s central bank) decided “to support the Executive Board’s proposal to supplement the present banknote and coin series with a 2-kronor coin and a 200-kronor banknote, and to renew the Swedish banknote and coin series. However, they did not consider that the 20-kronor note should be replaced with a coin. The final decision on denominations will be made by the Riksdag (the Swedish parliament) after a proposal from the Executive Board of the Riksbank.
