Spain may create its own banknote printing facility to comply with ECB rules

According to an article in El País dated 2 July 2014, the Banco de España may create a new banknote factory to comply with European Central Bank rules that central banks own their own note-printing facilities or put out to bid the production of euro banknotes to other authorized suppliers. Since 1940, the Fabrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (FNMT) has produced notes for Spain as an independent company.
