According to a Polish-language press release dated 6 June 2016, the National Bank of Poland intends to introduce a new 500-złoty note with a portrait of King Jan III Sobieski (John Sobieski), thereby keeping with the theme of the other denominations which feature “The monarchs of Poland.” The new note was designed by Andrzej Heidrich, the artist responsible for all other notes in this family. The introduction of this larger denomination is intended to cut costs and streamline economic transactions.
