According to an Albawaba Business article dated 7 June 2016, the Central Bank of Egypt’s printing house has begun producing 500 million new 1-pound banknotes to alleviate a shortage of small change. The new notes are expected to be identical to the 1-pound note (B316) which has not been produced since 2008 when it was replaced by a coin of the same denomination, but will bear the signature of Governor Tarek Amer, who took office in November 2015.
