According to a 6 December 2017 press release, the Central Bank of the Solomon Islands has issued a new 10-dollar note, the world’s first legal tender “gold coin note” (0.5 grams of .999 fine gold; worth approximately US$20 at spot price upon introduction). 20,000 pieces were produced in collaboration with the World Coin Association and MDM Group, a company based in Germany.
